About Camp Kushtaka

Alaska's diabetes camp is held at Camp Kushtaka (owned by Camp Fire USA, utilized by the ADA on a contractual basis) which is located on Snug Harbor Road in Cooper Landing. In addition to it's own lake, the camp offers sleeping cabins, a main lodge for meals, and restrooms with adjunct showers. A special medical cabin is equipped and staffed by the camp doctor and nurses, providing 24-hour supervision.

Medical professionals and Camp Fire personnel work as a team to provide informal diabetes management tips, comprehensive education, and personal support to campers in a fun environment. Participants will have the opportunity to share successes and challenges with other young people with similar circumstances and also grow more confortable with all aspects of their disease. The activities program at camp is designed for a variety of personalities, from sedate to adventurous- all of which are enjoyed in the beautiful natural setting of Kenai Lake.
